In reply to your telegram of the 1st. instant, I gave the Minister for Foreign Affairs a verbal undertaking that provided a satisfactory settlement were arrived at on the lines laid down in your telegram No. 34, the claim for damages would be waived. You should interview the Tutu and offer to give an under- -taking of a similar nature, and you should further impress upon him that you can go no further in assisting to arrive at an amicable settlement.

A telegram to the above effect is being despatched

to the Tu tu from the Wai Wu Pu.
